Project C: Clicking Creates Change Cast YOUR VOTE Today!

I am so proud to announce, after many months of work, Project C launched on Monday, May 28!

Project C: Clicking Creates Change, is an independent student-run multimedia project that ultimately donates funds to local nonprofit organizations in southeast Ohio.

The students involved with the project have spent the past few months working together to create documentaries chronicling the activities of four local nonprofit organizations. Video documentaries, along with still photos, infographics, and feature articles are now available to viewing audiences on Project C’s website: www.clickingcreateschange.com.

The nonprofits chosen to be featured in the 2012 edition of Project C include:

With the click of a mouse, community members, as well as any other visitors to the site, can vote for their favorite organization. When users vote for an organization they are helping decide how to allocate funds to the featured nonprofits. Today is last day to cast your vote! The amount of money donated to each organization is decided by the percentage of votes received during the five days voting is active.

A Project C Premier: Celebrating Community

If you live in the southeast Ohio area please join the Project C team TONIGHT from 7:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. as we celebrate our site launching, as well as acknowledge the southeast Ohio community and the nonprofit organizations that we are so proud to be a part of and look forward to our work benefiting this year. There will be music, free food, a silent auction, and representatives from each of the nonprofits featured in the 2012 edition of Project C.

The event is being held at the Community Center Pavilion on East Park Drive, between the Athens City Pool and CVS on East State Street. I hope you will join us!

Friday Finds: 11 May

This Friday, instead of telling you what I’ve found on the web, I am going to talk about what I’ve found somewhere else…

Generosity and the Human Spirit

The past few weeks I’ve witnessed amazing things. I have been working with two talented videographers to collect content for The Gathering Place, to be featured on the 2012 Project C site launching May 28. The Gathering Place is a community support center in Athens, Ohio where adults with metal disabilities and conditions can feel safe, supported, and at home.

My experience discovering the generosity and kindness of people everywhere is about more than meeting and building relationships with the workers, volunteers, and members at The Gathering Place. In addition to working as a content producer for Project C, I am the Public Relations Director for the project. With that title comes a variety of responsibilities, and one of my main focuses the past few weeks has been to raise funds for the Project C donation pot. Last year the team raised $1075, this year we are aiming to raise $2000 in donations from generous individuals and organizations.

Where those Funds Go

All the funds that are raised go into a pot, to be split among the four nonprofits being featured in the 2012 edition. From the time Project C launches on May 28, for five days through June 1, site visitors will be able to vote twice daily for each of those five days. At the end of the voting period the funds raised will be allocated to the four nonprofits, depending on the percentage of votes each organization gets. For example if The Gathering Place receives 22 percent of the total votes, they will receive 22 percent of the fund pot. If we reach our $2000 goal, that means they will be given $440.

Amazing Individuals

Like I said before, the generosity and kindness I have witnessed these past few weeks have come from a lot of places: the Project C team members I’m working with, the workers and volunteers running The Gathering Place, the members who benefit from the safe zone offered by the GP, and, especially, the amazing individuals who have donated what they can to help the nonprofits selected for the 2012 edition of Project C [The Gathering Place, United Campus Ministry, Rural Action: Watershed Restoration, Hocking-Athens-Perry Community Action].

To date, there are 30 individuals who have donated to raise a combined total of $1,355! Online donations can be made for 3 more days!

I am reaching out to all of you. Creating Change in the Athens Community, One Click at a Time

My roommate, Annette Drapac, co-founded Project C: Clicking Creates Change last year with an equally talented partner in crime, Tony Guglielmi. Let me begin by saying that in the four years I have known Annette she has never ceased to amaze and inspire me. She is certainly a forced to be reckoned with and I am so happy to be a part of the project this year as they launch into the second year of production. I want to share my enthusiasm surrounding Project C, as well as feature the tremendous amount of work students like Annette and Tony put into projects of passion, with all of you!

What is Project C?

Project C is a student-run multimedia project that ultimately donates funds to local nonprofit organizations. Students work together to create documentaries chronicling the activities of four local nonprofit organizations. Video documentaries, along with still photos, infographics, and feature articles are then presented on Project C’s website: www.clickingcreateschange.com.

The 2011 edition received the bronze award in the Large Group Multimedia category of the CPOY competition, as well as achieving placement as one of three finalist in the Adobe Design Achievement Awards, in the Browser Based Design category.

My Role in the Project

Primarily, I am working on the public relations team, promoting awareness of the project and community involvement, as well as fundraising efforts. I get to work with a talented team of marketing specialists, public relations students, and designers. Last year I was unable to work for Project C because I was in NYC interning at the Miss Universe Organization. This year I am ready to jump in, working to give back to the Athens community through Project C’s efforts! It has only been a couple of weeks and already I have worked to increase Project C’s Twitter following 13.5 percent, and their Facebook fan base 5.9 percent, as well as secure media placement in five community or student publications in southeast Ohio. And we’re just getting started!

In addition to working in public relations, fundraising, and marketing, I am participating as a content producer. I will write the story to accompany a video documentary and infographic created by a talented team of VisCom and Media Arts students at Ohio University. Our team is featuring the unsung heroes at The Gathering Place, a home that “supports the recovery of persons with mental illness by enhancing personal development and well-being, while fostering community involvement.”

Everyone Can Make a Difference. Learn What You Can Do!

The teams of volunteers at Project C work hard to bring you amazing, meaningful content. They hope to engage and inspire audiences, but everyone can do something to help out the Project!

With the click of a mouse, community members, as well as any other visitors to their site, can vote for their favorite organization. When users vote for an organization they are helping decide how to allocate funds to the featured nonprofits. This year, voting will take place from the time the site launches on Monday, May 28 until Friday, June 1.
